5th Annual HERITAGE DAYS 2008

160th Anniversary of
Pointe aux Barques Lighthouse

August 2-3 2008

The Pointe aux Barques Lighthouse Society held its fifth annual Festival the 1st weekend in August. If you missed it you missed the best one ever.

Saturday, August 2nd dawned bright, sunny and beautiful on the Lake. The Lighthouse Museum was spruced up, the grounds beautiful and the new coat of paint on the Tower and Museum bright and shiny. Serendipity, a six piece group from Grandville, began the entertainment followed by Ziggy and Suisan plus Michael Deren later in the afternoon. The civil war groups drilled, prepared and finally held a skirmish late in the afternoon. The large silent auction was open and the smell of burgers and brats floated over the grounds. The children’s games kept everyone busy with the help of a professional storyteller. The Tower climb was available and busy as usual.

Sunday morning brought another bright sunny day with the scent of a pancake breakfast in the air. Breakfast was followed by an open old fashioned church service provided by the settlers with the civil war group. Entertainment in the afternoon included a two hour big band concert by Bill Denbrock's Swing Band. The Festival closed with the raffle drawing and awarding of prizes to the children’s drawing contest.

Even if you missed the festival please do not miss our beautiful lighthouse and museum. It is still open now through the month of September. Hope to see you there!
