On Wednesday, June 25, 2003 at 6:00pm, the Pointe aux Barques Lighthouse Society hosted about 35 family members and tiger cubs from the Harbor Beach and Port Hope area. This tour is the first of its kind for the Society in promoting cultural awareness through our Michigan History Education Study program.

After splitting up into two groups a tour of the “Keepers of the Light” and the “Thumb Underwater Bottomland Preserve was enjoyed by all. The educational history study which took place after the tours netted each child a “Junior Keeper of the Light Certificate.”

This program was put together by the Society to open the door for education grant monies for the lighthouse and to educate our youth about the history of our area. The Society strongly believes that by educating our youth today we will promote keepers for tomorrow. Anyone wishing information about this program may email us at

Tiger cubs from Troop #1 present for the history study were Joshua Waun, Jacob Essenmacher, Rueben Arntz, Colin Cook, Derek Roggenbuck, Anthony Reinke and Jake Schumacher.
The scout outing was arranged through Dawn Schumacher the Pack Trainer and lead by Pack Leader Kevin Roggenbuck.
